Human prehistory is the period of the first stone tools and the invention of writing systems used by hominins approximately 3.3 million years ago.


Paleolithic Era (Old Stone Age)

The Paleolithic Era shows the first evidence of human development, characterized by the use of stone tools. This time period ends with major changes in human societies due to agriculture and animal domestication.

Mesolithic Era (Middle Stone Age)

-9,600 years ago

The Mesolithic era describes the cultures between the Paleolithic and the Neolithic Periods. The use of small stone tools and retouched stone blades are the key factor in identifying the Mesolithic era.

Neolithic Era (New Stone Age)

-6, 000 years ago

The Neolithic period demonstrates the first farming societies. The nomadic lifestyle was no longer the way of life. A sedimentary life was becoming the norm. Ceramic technology was also more apparent during this time.
